First time at Haywood Family Eye Care and I'm honestly wishing I'd switched years ago. Dr. McBride took the time to actually explain what she was seeing on the retinal imaging — nobody has ever done that. Front desk was lovely, the optical staff didn't try to upsell me, and I was in and out in under an hour. Glad to have found a Waynesville practice that feels like family.

I'd been dealing with miserable dry eye for two years and three different optometrists just kept handing me drops. Dr. Pinkston actually imaged my meibomian glands, walked me through what he saw, and put together a real plan. Six weeks in and I can read at night again without my eyes burning. Wish I'd come here first. The whole team is calm and unhurried — you don't feel like a number.
Dr. Krempecki is a gift to families with young kids. My 4-year-old was nervous going in and within five minutes she had him giggling while she checked his vision. Turned out he had a real focusing problem the pediatrician missed — they caught it and got him into glasses he picked out himself. The kids' frame section is bright and not overwhelming. Will drive from Canton for these appointments forever.
I have keratoconus and had given up on contacts after two practices in Asheville told me I wasn't a candidate. Dr. Przepiora spent close to two hours on the specialty fitting and got me into sclerals that I can wear comfortably all day. She's incredibly patient, explains everything, and clearly loves what she does. Worth the drive from Sylva, every time. Cannot recommend enough.
My husband and I have been coming here since the late 80s. Dr. McBride and Dr. Pinkston have managed my glaucoma beautifully for the last decade — my pressures have been stable, my visual fields haven't changed, and they coordinate with my retina specialist in Asheville without me having to chase paperwork. They know us, they know our family. That kind of continuity is so rare now.
I came in dreading the frame selection — I have a small face and nothing ever fits right. The optician (I think her name was Beth) pulled five pairs off the wall and the second one was perfect. She knew the Lindberg line cold and worked with my insurance to get me into progressives I love. Beats the chain stores in Asheville by a mile, and they actually adjust the fit when you come back.
My endocrinologist sent me here for a diabetic eye exam. Dr. Krempecki did the Optomap so I didn't need dilating drops, which was huge because I had to drive back to Maggie Valley after. She caught some very early background retinopathy, explained exactly what it meant, and sent the report straight over to my PCP. Genuinely felt cared for, not rushed. That's not normal anymore.
Dr. Pinkston walked me through every step of my cataract surgery — the lens options, what to expect at the surgeon's office, and then handled all my post-op visits right here in Waynesville so I didn't have to keep driving over the mountain. Both eyes are clear now and I'm seeing better than I have in fifteen years. He's direct without being cold and his staff treats you like a person. Highly recommend.
My 13-year-old has been begging for contacts and Dr. McBride made the whole fitting fun. She started him in dailies, walked him through insertion and removal three times until he had it, and didn't rush us once. He came out feeling proud instead of frustrated. Three months in and his eyes are healthy, he loves the convenience, and reorders through Arrellio are easy. Lovely Waynesville practice.
