We believe life is about vision — and that includes making sure every patient, of every ability, can use our website. Haywood Family Eye Care is committed to a website that works for people who use screen readers, navigate by keyboard, need higher contrast, or prefer reduced motion.
Our standard
This website is designed and built to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA — the standard referenced by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidance for websites.
What we do
- Every page is fully operable by keyboard, with a visible focus indicator on every link and button.
- Images carry meaningful text descriptions for screen readers; decorative visuals are hidden from assistive technology.
- All text meets or exceeds WCAG AA color-contrast requirements, including text over imagery.
- Animation and motion effects are disabled automatically for visitors whose devices request reduced motion, and the site remains fully readable without them — and even with JavaScript turned off.
- The site works at 200% zoom and on small screens without losing content or function.
- Videos are silent, decorative, and never flash.
- We test with automated accessibility tools (axe-core) and manual keyboard and screen-reader checks, and we re-test whenever the site changes.
Third-party services
Some services we link to — such as online exam scheduling and bill payment — are operated by third parties, and we cannot fully control their accessibility. If you have any difficulty using them, please call us instead: we are always happy to schedule your exam, take a payment, or help with anything else by phone.
